How to report an error
Use the Contact page and choose a correction-related subject. Include the article URL, the exact statement you believe is wrong, the correct information and a reliable source or document when available.
How we review requests
An editor reviews the published material, reporting notes and relevant primary sources. We may contact the person who submitted the request or the reporter for clarification. Requests to remove accurate information solely because it is inconvenient are not corrections.
Types of updates
Correction: A factual error that changes or could change a reader's understanding is fixed and an explanatory note is added. Clarification: Accurate wording that could reasonably mislead is revised and may receive a note. Update: New information is added to a developing story and the updated time is shown. Typographical fix: Minor spelling, grammar or formatting changes that do not alter meaning may be corrected without a note.
Headlines, social posts and video
If an error appears in a headline, thumbnail, caption, social post or video description, we correct that element as well as the article when we control it. Material video errors may be corrected in the description, with an on-screen note, or through a replacement when appropriate.
Transparency
Correction notes state what was wrong and what is now correct without repeating avoidably harmful information. The publication date remains visible, and significant updates display an updated date. We aim to acknowledge complete correction requests promptly, though complex reviews can take longer.
Appeals
If you believe a correction request was not resolved, reply with additional evidence and ask for editorial review. A different editor will reassess the matter when practical.
